More transparency in commodity trading: Objectives, methodologies, standards

  • 00:00 – 00:00 CEST
  • 20 October 2015

The Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) and the Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative (EITI) are organising a meeting on commodity trading and transparency on 20 October 2015 (13:00-14:00), which will take place on the margins of the 30th EITI Board meeting. Extraction of oil, gas and minerals have far-reaching effects on resource-rich countries. It can spur economic growth and social development, or, when poorly managed, lead to corruption and conflict. More transparency and openness in producing as well as host countries can contribute to ensure that more citizens benefit from extracting natural resources.

With the increasing global focus on transparency in the trading of commodities, this meeting seeks to provide a platform for dialogue on transparency in commodity trading and to discuss the role of the EITI. Co-hosted by the EITI and the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), the meeting will bring together representatives from governments, including national oil companies, commodity trading companies, civil society organizations and academia to discuss transparency in commodity trading.

This event is open to the public. Places are limited and only registered participants will be admitted.
